Lifestyle celebrates 30th anniversary with a nod to furniture industry’s transformation
HIGH POINT — Lifestyle Enterprise is heading into High Point Market with a milestone celebration on the calendar and officials are looking at the company’s 30th anniversary against a backdrop of transformative shifts in the furniture industry that have supported its growth and expansion.
Michael Hsieh, CEO, said that when Lifestyle was founded by his father, William Hsieh, only a few companies ventured outside of domestic manufacturing in the U.S. He added that his father’s vision was to expand the global sourcing of furniture products, pioneering the importing of furniture from Taiwan and then building a trusted network of international manufacturing partners. Eventually, that same network expanded across China and throughout Asia, establishing global sourcing as a significant component of many retail strategies.
“The company started by bringing in accent furniture and has grown to a full line of case goods and upholstery,” Hsieh told Furniture Today. “There were only a few factories in Asia that understood how to meet quality standards and support the volume needed for the U.S. market. Today, the landscape is very different.”
A milestone anniversary is cause for celebration for any company, despite current geopolitical and economic global disruptions. Acknowledging that the furniture category requires flexibility in reaction to market conditions, Hsieh said that successful companies also remain committed to established goals.
“The company was founded when the industry did not understand the values of imports. After 30 years, it is still expanding with the understanding that if you have quality products, service the customer and have values — regardless of the distractions or uncertainty — then there will always be business for companies that maintain a focus.”

Today, Hsieh and his sister, Jodie Hsieh, who serves as chairman of the global business, are spearheading the next decades of growth for the family business, guiding Lifestyle’s strategic direction with growth and innovation initiatives including entering new product categories, broadening assortments across key furniture segments, and acquiring and launching a permanent showroom building in High Point in the heart of downtown.
During the April market, Lifestyle will introduce a range of 30th anniversary specials, offering retailers “exceptional values across select product categories,” according to officials.
And while most executives have begun to embrace the “disruption is the new normal” philosophy, Hsieh believes there are significant opportunities ahead for companies that “stick to their core disciplines.”
“For us, that is service, quality and values,” said Hsieh. “Change is inevitable, and embracing change could be a positive for companies that can react quickly and decisively. Lifestyle is a big company in the industry, but we can make decisions quickly to support our customers and industry changes.
“Reaching 30 years is an incredible milestone for our company. My father built this company on a foundation of trust, strong global partnerships and a commitment to customer service with a relentless obligation to creating values for our retail partners. Our vision moving forward is to build on that foundation. As we look to the future, we remain deeply committed to the principles that built this company while continuing to innovate and grow for the next generation.”
